While
Miami's folk heroes Raffa and Rainer may
not have deciphered the structure of the
DNA molecule, levitated giant white tigers,
or employed a DJ named Spinderella, they
have won the hearts and discerning ears
of the Magic City's concert-going faithful,
winning Best Songwriter honors from the
Miami New Times and Best Pop Act from City
Link in 2006. Besides playing a plethora
of local shows, including a recent performance
opening for Cat Power, Raffa and Rainer
have brought their winning combination of
haunting melodies, inspired lyrics, and
delicate finger-picking to audiences from
cabins in Georgia to the frozen tundra of
Montreal, and play every Wednesday at Miami's
favorite watering hole, Churchills Pub.
Can YOU rock a little softer????
Rachel Goodrich a
Miami native is a familiar face the local
music goer. The music is best described
as shake-a-billy, full of honesty, and very
danceable. Her performances are intimate
as she pours out her heartfelt lyrics and
dazzles the audience with her guitar, harmonica,
or even kazoo playing. As always you are
invited to come out to her next performance,
grab a shaker, and dance all night!
A conscience
minded young man, Sam has broken silence
all over the world. Spending time
studying music in the UK, he has performed
his unique brand of atmospheric folk
from London to his hometown of Miami.
Having recently finished his album,
"Secure and Fastened for Daisy
Buchanan", a breath of enthusiasm
and new possibilities has begun to
surround the young singer-songwriter.
By fashioning a guitar, deep passion,
and dedicated drive, Sam has carved
a market in the Miami circuit, and
a niche in the music realm.
Rolling Stone
says: "…an authentic Miami
sound is being forged by DJ Le Spam
and the All Stars" But how can
we describe it? Lets try ; DJ Le Spam
& the Spam Allstars blend improvisational
electronic elements and turntables
with Latin, funk, hip hop and dub
to create a sound that is unique an
electronic descarga. It's not a known
genre. It's hard to describe. It attracts
many types of people. But as we look
out and see people dancing salsa,
next to break-dancers, and festival-goers
driving for hours to catch a show
-- we know something very special
is going on.
Call it Radar
began in January of '07 with Tom Gorrio
and Arik Dayan who had been jamming
together for 5 years hammering out
their own "style". This
new project presented the opportunity
for them start from scratch. While
trying out different members, in came
the songs. Still with no permanent
extra members, Tom and Arik played
the shows with backing tracks persistent
to get C.i.R. on it's feet. In August
'07 Tony Aguirre hopped on second
guitar and now Call it Radar is playing
as a three piece and will soon be
back on the road touring the states.
A new E.P. is expected for early or
mid '08 so keep an eye out.
New Times says:
"Miami's jangliest, danciest,
post-punkiest pop band, The Jean Marie."
Combining warm coats of distorted
guitars with bass heavy dance grooves,
they have a way of winking with a
straight face that straddles the line
between satire and utter sincerity.
Electrifying performances incorporating
unexpected instruments and visuals
get the audience on their toes and
moving. Look out Miami; they have
a full length due out this coming
year
